Oxy Starts Strong Against CMS

LOS ANGELES — The Occidental men's water polo team started off strong, looking a good Claremont-Mudd-Scripps team eye-to-eye through most of the first quarter, but couldn't sustain it throughout the game in a 15-7 loss to the Stags at Taylor Pool on Saturday.

Oxy scored first and held a 3-2 lead in the first, before CMS tacked on two goals, including one with just seconds remaining, to take the lead.

CMS led 9-5 at halftime and then separated with good defense, allowing just two Oxy goals in the second half.

Cian Concannon was Oxy's leading goal scorer with three scores, and Christian Guillaume, Hayden Comerford, Wilson Noll and Elijah Havens all added one. Shea Grosz and Nicolas Lipari each had two assists.

Oxy goalkeeper Henry Grady made six saves.

Eric Weiner and Nick Britt led the Stags with three goals each.

Season Impact: Oxy falls to 7-9 overall and 1-4 in SCIAC play.

CMS improves to 9-8 and 4-1.

Next Game: Oxy is back in action at Cal Lutheran on Wednesday.
