The Tigers played well in the first quarter, going up 19-18 after the first period, but couldn't sustain it in an 86-72 loss.
PLU had a big second and third quarter run to put the game out of reach.
"PLU's experience showed and they were the more assertive team," Oxy head coach Anahit Aladzhanyan said. "Overall, it was a great learning experience early on for us. I was happy with our ability to bounce back and make a couple runs in the second half."
Yoshida had nine of her points in the first quarter and 13 by halftime.
Hughes came on strong in the second half with eight in the third and 11 in the fourth.
Katie Taylor had 29 points and Madison Salisbury had 19 to lead PLU.
The Tigers fall to 0-1 on the season.
PLU improves to 3-0.
Oxy is back in action against the University of St. Katherine at Rush Gym on Friday at 7 p.m.
